At the last meeting of the Reading Borough Council Traffic Management Sub-committee, Liberal Democrat campaigner for Minster ward, James Moore, presented a petition on behalf of residents for 20mph limits on Brunswick Street and the roads off.

The move came after over 50 residents off the street signed the petition for improved road safety for the area.

James said “I want the Council to take road safety seriously in Reading, and the residents have clearly expressed a desire for that through this petition.

Cars are often speeding through this area and using the road as a rat-run, and residents are fed up with it and concerned about their safety. I hope the Council take this seriously and implement the requested changes.”

Commenting further, Councillor Ricky Duveen said “Young children and cyclists stand to benefit most if speed limits in residential roads in our area were reduced to 20mph. Streets with a 20mph speed limit have less traffic noise, lower emissions and 40% fewer road casualties, improving road safety especially for young children.

Combined with investment into improved cycle facilities in the borough, 20mph limits can improve road safety while encouraging more local residents to get on their bikes or walk.”
